The story
The ESP32 Marauder V8 is an upgraded evolution of the popular V6 hardware platform, built around the ESP32-C5 system-on-chip. Developed as an all-in-one handheld suite for wireless security auditing, the V8 iteration adds native 5 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5 support to a self-contained, field-ready form factor equipped with a 2.8-inch touch display and integrated GPS.
Why it matters
Most legacy hardware tools for wireless penetration testing are limited to the 2.4 GHz spectrum. With modern enterprise and consumer environments transitioning to dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and WPA3 security protocols, single-band sniffers miss critical network traffic. The Marauder V8 fills this gap by extending frame capture, deauthentication analysis, and PMKID auditing to both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
- Dual-Band Auditing: Inspect 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks simultaneously.
- WPA3 & Advanced Tracking: Audit WPA3-capable access points and detect trailing Bluetooth devices like AirTags or Meta devices.
- Counter-Surveillance: Detect rogue auditing hardware such as WiFi Pineapples or Pwnagotchi units in your vicinity.

How it works
The core functionality relies on a modified esp-idf framework allowing 802.11 raw frame operations. The hardware logs captured packets directly to a MicroSD card in standard PCAP format for post-analysis in tools like Wireshark.

Hands-on notes
Out of the box, the unit comes pre-loaded with the Marauder firmware suite. The 2.8-inch display provides real-time traffic density graphs, signal strength indicators, and an onboard fuel gauge for monitoring the battery. Field wardriving is seamless: connect the included 32 dBi GPS antenna, power on the device via the physical toggle switch, and begin logging geo-tagged PCAPs directly to MicroSD.
Note: Firmware updates can be applied directly via USB-C or flashed straight from an inserted SD card without needing external programmer hardware.

What we'd change
As a hand-assembled enclosure, minor alignment gaps or 3D printing layer lines may be present on the shell. Furthermore, while the 320×240 screen is responsive, dense packet displays can feel cramped when managing extensive channel lists during heavy dual-band traffic.
Verdict
The Marauder V8 ESP32-C5 offers exceptional value for authorized cybersecurity researchers and pentesters requiring a compact, dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth analysis tool with built-in GPS wardriving capabilities.
